Social Security Fund (SSF) in Nepal 2026: Contribution, Benefits & Registration

Everything you need to know about Nepal's Social Security Fund — contribution rates, employer obligations, benefits for employees, and how to register your business.
Introduction
Nepal's Social Security Fund (SSF) was established under the Contribution Based Social Security Act, 2074 (2017) to provide social protection for formal sector workers. Since its full implementation, SSF has become mandatory for all registered businesses in Nepal.
This guide covers the current contribution rates, benefits employees receive, registration process for employers, and common questions about the SSF system in Nepal.
What is the Social Security Fund?
The Social Security Fund is a government-managed social insurance scheme that provides financial protection to employees against risks such as illness, accidents, disability, maternity, old age, and unemployment. It is administered by the Social Security Fund Secretariat under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
All businesses registered in Nepal with one or more employees are required to enroll their workers in SSF. Both the employer and the employee contribute a percentage of the employee's basic salary to the fund.
Contribution Rates (2026)
Employee Contribution: 11% of basic salary — deducted from the employee's monthly pay.
Employer Contribution: 20% of basic salary — paid by the employer on top of the salary.
Total Contribution: 31% of basic salary goes into the SSF system per employee per month. The employer's contribution is a business expense and is tax-deductible.
Benefits Provided by SSF
Medical Treatment Scheme: Covers medical expenses for workplace-related illnesses, outpatient care, hospitalization, and prescribed medications up to a defined ceiling.
Health & Maternity Protection: Female employees receive paid maternity leave benefits and medical coverage for childbirth. Male employees receive paternity benefits.
Accident & Disability: Compensation for workplace accidents, temporary or permanent disability, and occupational diseases.
Old Age (Provident Fund): Retirement savings accumulated from monthly contributions, payable as a lump sum or pension upon retirement.
Dependent Family Protection: Financial support for dependents in case of the employee's death during employment.
Unemployment: Limited unemployment benefits for workers laid off from formal employment.
How to Register for SSF

Step 3: Begin making monthly contributions by the 15th of each month. Contributions can be paid through bank transfer or online payment portals.
